Long and Cold

Let me start by saying, some of my favorite pictures have been taken in the winter. Snow and ice do crazy things and make neat shapes and create a lot of contrast.

Unfortunately,  I’ve gotten to the the point where I really don’t want to take another photo of a winter landscape, or a pretty ice formation, or a duck chilling on a frozen whatever, while I’m freezing my butt off and my fingers are going numb.

I want some colors other than blue, brown, black, and white.

I want Spring! Please hurry up, Spring.

Anyway, I’m thinking of hitting up Heckrodt Wetland Preserve this weekend.  I’d prefer to go there in the Summer, but hey, it’s not.  At the very least it’ll be a nice walk.  I also need more practice with the 70-300mm, so it’s a good excuse.

Tracked

TrackedI took my new 70-300mm lens there to see what I could see.  I could see quite a lot, unfortunately I don’t know how to take actual photographs with it.  Everything ended up blurry or horribly grainy.  This is pretty much the only shot that come out.  I need to play with my camera settings to try and fix this.  It’s a sweet lens, but if I don’t learn how to use it, it’s useless to me.

Anyway, I love  1000 Islands.  I saw eagles and many ducks and took many crappy pictures of them.

The Tree

The Tree

I missed a opportunity to shoot some hoarfrost this morning.  I was able to get this capture though.  My parents live out in Wrightstown surrounded by dairy farms and corn fields.  This field is right across the street from their house.  I’m considering going back out there in the early morning, as my parents say it is very pretty around dawn.

On the other hand, I strongly dislike 6 a.m.

Oh yeah, I started a photoblog for my website.  Yay.
