Lambeau at Night
I’m a little concerned about this Sunday. I’m going to the Cowboys/Packers game at Lambeau Field. I’m not concerned about that, because that is awesome. I’m concerned about being able to take decent pictures at the game. I will have all the focal length I need. Once my 18-105mm lens arrives (hopefully today), I’ll be able to go 18mm all the way to 300mm with only two lenses. There shouldn’t be a problem storing them either, as I have a small case that fits the 70-300mm perfectly.
It’s the light. Packers/Cowboys is on Sunday Night Football. Kickoff is around 7:20pm. Daylight Savings ends the night before. It’s going to be dark. Oh sure, the field will be all lit up. I’ll be able to see the game just fine (from the end zone nosebleed seats). It’s just that neither of these lenses are known for their performance in low light situations. I tried out the 70-300mm out at a Timber Rattlers game this summer and sure enough, when the sun went down, the lens had trouble getting the shots, and I had to switch to the 35mm f/1.8 to get more light (and no zoom).
It could be that it’ll be just fine. I’ll probably just play with shutter speed and ISO to get cleaner shots, and I’m sure I’ll have plenty of pre-game time to figure out where the camera needs to be set. It just makes me nervous because I don’t get opportunities like this very often, and this is the first Packer game I’ve been to with this camera. I want awesome pictures, damnit.
At least the conditions shouldn’t change throughout the game. Dark, with a chance of dark.
This is from last year on my old Panasonic Lumix FZ-7 Day games rule. Charles Woodson Rules. That camera kinda ruled too.
Redesign!
I’m slowly redesigning my website to be more…interesting. Colorful, maybe? It is a work in progress. It is always a work in progress.
This page is just going to be me talking about stuff. It may or may not be about photography. The blog is certainly focused on photography, and most entries will be most likely related to my photography, but not necessarily.
I guess with this Word Press theme, I get 7 pages to play with across the top. (Those are not my photos, by the way. Still have to change ‘em.) That means this page and 6 themed photo blogs? I’m still playing around with that. I guess I have a main page as well, so maybe that should be the blog and then 7 themed photo blogs?
I guess maybe not! Everything appears on the main page, and is then divided by categories across the top. I think.
Edit: Nope. Main page is separate. That’s going to have to be the blog, and then 7 photo categories.
Wasn’t doing what I wanted. Here’s a new theme that I’ll probably change tomorrow.
Long and Cold
Let me start by saying, some of my favorite pictures have been taken in the winter. Snow and ice do crazy things and make neat shapes and create a lot of contrast.
Unfortunately, I’ve gotten to the the point where I really don’t want to take another photo of a winter landscape, or a pretty ice formation, or a duck chilling on a frozen whatever, while I’m freezing my butt off and my fingers are going numb.
I want some colors other than blue, brown, black, and white.
I want Spring! Please hurry up, Spring.
Anyway, I’m thinking of hitting up Heckrodt Wetland Preserve this weekend. I’d prefer to go there in the Summer, but hey, it’s not. At the very least it’ll be a nice walk. I also need more practice with the 70-300mm, so it’s a good excuse.
